Feint Design Kit for Dawn Shopify Themes

Feint gives a Dawn store the look of a clean legal pad. Everything the store says is set in navy, like ballpoint on white paper, and canary yellow is saved for the one band on a page that’s meant for the shopper — a free sample, say.

We build this store with AI, inside a system we’ve written down for ourselves: every product has a standard it must meet and checks that run before it ships, and a person signs off before anything goes on sale. Feint came out of that system as one of three redesigns we worked up for this store’s own theme. An agent can restyle a theme in a few minutes. Keeping the next new section on the same look is harder, because each request is a fresh set of choices. Feint writes the look down where your agent will read it: the colours, the type, the shape of every button and card, and the rules a new section has to follow.

What it changes in Dawn

Feint restyles all six of Dawn’s colour schemes, so the sections you already have take on the look without being rebuilt. It also styles Dawn’s own buttons, product cards, badges, drop-down menus, accordions, thumbnails and the pop-up that confirms something went into the cart, and the option buttons and prices on a product page follow along. Headings are set in Familjen Grotesk and reading text in Source Serif 4, which comes with its italic.

Up close you’ll notice the details. Outline buttons are drawn as a 2px navy line, cards are edged with a single hairline, and buttons give a little when you press them. We keep the canary to one band a page at most, and the DESIGN.md asks your agent to do the same. Every text colour on all six schemes passes WCAG 2.2 AA contrast (4.5:1 or better).

• A DESIGN.md file your AI agent reads before it touches the theme. It sets out the palette, type and shapes, and shows how to build a new section that fits.
• An install prompt to paste into an AI coding agent such as Claude Code. It checks that your theme can take the kit before it changes anything. Then it installs Feint and opens a preview on your own computer, and your live store isn’t touched.
• A brand book: one web page with every component shown on each of the six colour schemes.
• A licence for as many stores as you like, yours and your clients’.

Questions

Can’t my AI agent restyle the theme for free? It can, and for a one-off change that’s fine. The trouble comes with the next request. Nothing recorded what the agent chose last time, so it chooses again and the store drifts. Feint gives your agent a finished look to work from, written down in its DESIGN.md, with every colour already checked for contrast. It’s also our own design, where most free DESIGN.md files online copy a famous brand.

What do I need? Your theme’s files on your computer and an AI coding agent such as Claude Code, or about ten minutes to install it by hand. If you’d rather never open your theme’s code, Feint isn’t for you, since it installs into the theme’s files and there’s nothing to set up in the theme editor.

Which themes does it work with? Dawn 13 or later. The install prompt checks your theme first and stops if it can’t take the kit. Horizon isn’t supported yet, and we haven’t tested themes built from Dawn’s code, such as Refresh.

Can I install it without an agent? Yes. Copy the files into your theme and add a few lines to its layout, and the kit’s instructions give you the exact lines.

Will it change my products, pages or settings? No. Feint changes how the store looks and leaves your products, pages, navigation and Theme settings as they are, with every section where you put it. It doesn’t add sections to the theme editor, and checkout keeps Shopify’s own look.

Is there a dark mode? No, Feint is ink on paper all the way through.

Can I use it on client stores? Yes, on as many as you like, as part of your work for each client. The kit stays in a client’s store after the job ends, and you don’t need to credit us. The licence only rules out reselling the kit or giving it away.

Does it work with Sidekick or Canvas? We haven’t tested it with either, so we won’t promise it does.

Can I switch it off? Yes. One small edit to the theme’s layout switches it off, and the store looks exactly as it did before. The kit only adds styling, so your settings and content are untouched.
